Thorny Advice

July 10, 2020

In the times of Corona when outings are locked down, I thought I might make use of the steamed energy generated from staying in my flat for too long by providing out of the box advice to the leaders of our beloved Middle East.

For The Iraqi ones. Adopt a secular, non-provincial new constitution in the French style. Install a technocratic government. Re-train a motivated army on non-sectarian bases. The question is who will propel such project when the current politicalĀ players are invested in the rot. Beware! this might be the only viable method for saving this ingenious nation from sliding into the oblivion of times.

In Syria. For Assad, the Sunni tribal leaders, and Kurds. Declare Syria a federal republic with popular democracy, the Swiss cantons style. Oh..I forgot. It was Assad and other leaders’ parochial interests, medieval pride, and geopolitical blindness that got Syria where it is.

For the Gulfies. It might already be a little too late, but, anyway, there is still some time. Convert your financial resources into futuristic development bank aligned with Western financial institutions.

In Egypt. Clip the wings and pluck the feathers of the oligarchic beast through a well-crafted tax system geared towards boosting productive activities. Rethink banking credit policy. Government should add to its top list of priorities supporting entrepreneurs through loans and know-how. Meanwhile, the Egyptian army should be armed to the tooth and given precedence in the country.

For Tunisia. Build universities and top schools in the black south. The measures applicable on Egypt are also applicable on Tunisia and Algeria.

For Iran. Withdraw from the Levant. Declare a grand new horizons initiative with the West. The nation should direct all its energies towards placing itself in its deserved place as a first world nation.

For Morocco. Turn the country into a tax haven for Gulf money that would turn it into a beehive for small, and medium industries serving Europe and turning it into a magnet for technology entrepreneurs yearning for its unbeatable charm.
